Chief Science Officer's Personal Log, Supplemental.
Following the retirement of Captain zh'Rellek, the majority of the Cairo's senior staff have been posted to other assignments. The incoming Captain wishes to start with a fresh slate and have her own personal selections to lead that vessel's departments. Although I have served on the Cairo for five years and my team has made measurable scientific progress, she nonetheless has elected to place a personal friend in the Chief Science Officer position.
How very Human of her to choose someone with whom she has a personal relationship in lieu of myself.
I have no feelings regarding my reassignment; my primary concern is for the integrity and accuracy of my team's ongoing projects and surveys. I do not doubt that any Starfleet team is reasonably capable of completing these tasks...however, given the level of competence and professionalism that I expect from my team I am confident that we would produce superior results.
In light of that, I have elected to accept a transfer for myself and my core research team to the USS Tigerfisn-A, a new Excelsior-class vessel that will be under the command of Vice Admiral J.T. Carlson. The Admiral and I have served together in the past, when I was a Junior Science Officer and he was Commanding the USS Kongo. The Admiral has had an illustrious career over the last two and a half decades. Despite his penchant for what some at Starfleet Command have referred to as 'Cowboy Diplomacy', I do find him to be a competent Commanding Officer.
End Log.
